The big chop, for both natural and chemically treated hair, is one of the most intimidating things a woman can do. Even the most confident of women have hesitated at the sight of scissors rising uncomfortably high on their tresses. But with summer just around the corner, this is the perfect time to try something new.

What is it about short hair that’s both daunting and freeing?

As stylists we’ve heard just about every excuse there is for not going there, and we’ve also heard just about every reason there is to actually go through with it. Women are both afraid and alive. They fear the seeming permanence of the decision, yet embrace the boldness of such a seemingly¬†permanent decision.

We all know there are ways around big chop regrets, but even so, we find it’s rarely needed. If we could encourage every woman to try short hair at least once in their lifetime, it’d be an exciting and worthwhile cause.¬†We happen to think there’s a short style out there for everyone. Shorter locks highlight the face and neckline keeping all the attention on your natural features.

Check out some of the celebrities who are wowing us with their new short styles for spring and summer.
